09 Feb 09 S 4.14 Mystery of Mystery

The adrenaline one gets while hearing music on a dancefloor can also be generated when listening to ambient music on the sofa, couple of beats included if you will, shall we try today? Good music from the 90’s comes with mystery as well, some bands still exist, some bands simply disappeared from the scene and only continued to perform in our memories. These memories will be visualized on this Spacemusic podcast S 4.14  - we bring in the real guns… Xingu Hill is the perfect opening for 1995 on stage, we saw the man performing his album ‘Maps of the Impossible’ but today we play unreleased stuff…. Turning the knobs, lifting us from the ground as the hi-cut frequency filter opened up our world of dreams.

The PLATO store in The Hague during the 90’s was our weekly stop for the latest news about ambient and electronic releases: Mr. ‘Elf’ certainly overwhelmed us those days with his excellent choices for exclusive albums…. Enjoy this (90’s) essence of ambient and beats, accompanied with Xingu Hill, Pete Namlook, Higher Intelligence Agency, The Psychick Warriors ov Gaia and Bola. The great spirit of the 90’s, the warm ambient/electronic music scene, parties we visited back then 15 years ago in Leerdam, Wassenaar, Rotterdam, The Hague and more…., no laser shows but strobo+smoke and pars only, DJ’s-Labels-and friends like Paul Funk, Elf, Mixmaster Morris, Apollo Records, KK-records, EM:T records, April Records, Rising High Records, FAX-label, Nico, Olaf, Mark, Tim, Paul, Victor, … The music on this podcast reflects the Mystery of Mystery, where it all got started for us, for me, myself and I - amongst the others - Happy Listening!

Hey TC, well done. Nice classic feel and good beats. I especially liked Higher Intelligence Agency. Thanks for another quality show.

TC reply: Yes Steve! Thanks! HIA sounds good hey? It’s one of the best tracks I know…. keep listening!

    Matt Says:

Thanks for another wonderful podcast, TC!

I was looking at your HD project, sounds cool. I think the reason there is no video footage of electronic/ambient concerts is because video recording devices and cameras are generally banned from concert venues, at least that’s how it is here in the US.

TC reply: Hi Matt, thanks for your visit. Banned… yes. That’s a crazy thing!!! Maybe I should worry visiting the US, if this is a common thing that is. Anyway; the project will be started up!

    Hey there TC!

Another warm hello to you (I said hi a couple of years ago - and you in kind responded the same) and thank you for your great podcasts! I influenced my teenage nephews into listening to your podcasts - you’re podcasts are their favorite now! S 4.14 is a beauty! I really can’t get enough of Cliff Martinez and his work from Solaris. I do recommend any of your listeners buying that movie since it really adds stunning visuals to the music.

Oh…. also, love the redeaux > Psychick Warriors ov Gaia - Obsidian (Deconstructure)!

Please keep up the podcasts for as long as it feeds your own soul too!

Admin reply: Super! Solaris sets the tone for sure, we recommend the movie to all listeners with a bit of imagination capabilities….. the movie feels like a dream, you’ll dream to movie, it’s George Clooney and Natascha McElhone (and a lot of others!) acting gold… go see it. Good to hear about the teenage gentles listening to our show, it’s becoming a real family podcast now ;-) thanks a lot and keep listening.

Hi TC, Great show again, but MAN MAN MAN, what a wonderful track is this “Obsidian (Deconstructure” of the “Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia”. I followded the link in the playlist above, but it seems that the Obsidian EP (containing the magnificent track) is only available on vinyl. And I have stoppped playing vinyl records already a long time ago. Do you know if this track (or maybe another great song from this dutch formation I had never heard from before) is (also) available in digital format?
    Keep up the good work!

Hi TC, just found the Obsidian CD under the link you mentioned at Discogs. I just overlooked it!

Admin Reply: OK, cool ;-) PWOG is really something hey? It’s too bad that times flies that fast…and such music is now safe within the archive, not to be continued by the band. But one never knows for sure.

Hi TC. I’m listening to you podcast since - years? - !
Every episode I can hear “please leave your comment …” Now I’ll do so.
I really like most of your podcasts and some of them keeps in my playlist. There has been some good recommendations for new artists. Some weeks ago I was pleased to hear Schiller on your podcast - one of my favorite artists. he is very popular in germany and has made a great live show in 2008. i have not seen it live but on dvd.

I’m impressed about your great work - keep on!
