26 Jan 09 S 4.12 Time to Leave Rightnow

Spacemusic S4.12 is about the inspiration music and images can bring us - a picture says more than a thousand words - music was my first love and it will be my last - when the body and mind combines these two ingredients, one can imagine anything is possible! The perfect recipe for an escape to explore;

Today’s show offers great music from Germany, Norway, USA and UK. One can hear the variation, the cultures, the different circumstances when the music was arranged and produced. Music is about exploring, music is about changes, changes are good, changes are food for new and exciting times in our lives. Why don’t we leave right now and find out….?

19 Jan 09 S 4.11 The Birth of Stars

The first show in the year 2009 is a fact…. welcome to a great year of the best ambient and electronic music! And guess what, the postman delivered two amazing albums for today’s episode. First of all a great opening by Area 42 that woke us up the other day playing from the iPod Video. Saul Stokes has sent us his album ‘Villa Galaxia’ as posted earlier in the Moments-category. This is pure electronic fireworks! Saul plays 3 tracks on this podcast.

The second album that was delivered by the postman is performed by Janet Robbins from Asheville, North Carolina. It’s entitled “Carrying the Bag of Hearts,  Interpreting the Birth of Stars”. The final in a series of soundscape CDs released by Janet and we’re happy to welcome her on show 4.11 So in short: tune in and enjoy life the max!

11 Jan 09 Moments with Saul Stokes

Villa Galaxia by Saul Stokes….: playing this record just after waking up, listening on a sunday morning, the sun was coming through the misty atmospheres, cold weather, wintertime. This album came in via the mailbox and we have to say, there’s nothing like playing the good old CD, holding the box, touching the cover, smelling the paper. Listen….!

Saul’s music is best described as “one of a kind”. Exploration and Adventure. He has this typical style, typical sounds, warmth, fantastic quality mixing. First track Hello Radar certainly has the so called ‘welcome-home’ feeling, it welcomes you to this journey to Villa Galaxia, the name of the album. The second track really starts our adventure: unexpected breaks, chords, enormous depth and perspectives. Vapor Trails as it is called, sets the tone and comforts you with a true Sound Walhalla…..

What beautiful melodies and unknown sounds can do to you! Beats, long driven and spread bassslines, sweeps, bells, pads…… Pfew! Simply amazing and this is only just the beginning.

Blaze…. track number three grabbed us: @ the three minute mark it’s like flying over the winter landscape, Saul opens up a complete box of tools….sounds are pitching up and down, warm synth chords and groovy loops make this one a unique song. Night Painting takes over (track no.4) and confirms the fact that Stokes is fully aware of what he’s doing here: bringing electronic music to a very new and exciting level which it deserves. It surprises you. Music that won’t disappoint you. Not a single second. The beats/ patterns are so very warm and lifting…. yep! We can see the overal picture now! Thank you Saul, this is a dazzling painting!

The fun in ‘eta car is a massive star’, the science fiction of ‘future gamma’….almost symphonic drum & bass style, emotional ‘embedded in amber’ that will never leave your brains anymore…..for short, as we don’t sneak peak too much here, don’t wanna spoil all the surprising effects on this album, we just wanna say: get this album “Villa Galaxia” performed by Saul Stokes now!

File it under: best quality productions / electronic fireworks / ambient. The album was mastered by Jeff Bowron and Saul Stokes at Shakesound Recording Studio in Oakland, California, 2008.

Artwork and design by Brendan Dooley, San Francisco, California, 2008.

Thank you Saul for sharing your wonderful music.

Logic System - links and info -

Logic System is a musical project of Hideki Matsutake. Hideki started as an assistant for Isao Tomita n the 70’s and is well-known as the sequencer programmer and modular synthesizer operator for the Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO), but he wasn’t a member of YMO. He worked on several of their albums and toured with his huge collection of synths. He also did sequencing work for numerous technopop albums for other artists, particularily in the early 80’s. In 1996 he performed in a big concert event organized by Isao Tomita and was also guest on Towa Tei albums. On his website is a huge number of MIDI files he released, with some of YMO’s original songs.
