What a week of hard working does to you… struggling and falling, messing up words coming from the mouth… Fried brains, tired body, sleepy eyes. Maybe it’s about time for a good vacation? Indeed! That thought immediately injects us with positive energy so it’s the best thing to do right now: focuss on the fun vacation plans. Visiting the UK is one of our plans. June. Higher temperatures. Today’s music is a soundtrack that helps you focuss; artists like Ab Ovo, Jon Jenkins, Craig Padilla, Zero Ohms, Skip Murphy, Biosphere, Michael Stearns - the theme ‘Cross over’ is about the drifting sounds in this mix taking over, no more talk, just music floating back to back. On this show we’d like to thank our sponsors, the Spacemusic HD project is making progress! The brand new Canon HD cam is now in our hands… so we enjoy doing tests and experimenting with all kinds of encoding techniques. The Elgato Turbo H.264 HD has been sent to us to give it a try. Definately a fine piece of equipment that goes well in small spaces: the Turbo encoder is a small USB stick that fits the pocket while travelling and using mobile computers like our Macbook Pro. “Cross Over” - a show to take with you wherever you go -

Sehnsucht LIVE order via Amazon.de arrived yesterday @ spacemusic studios Rotterdam. Dinner late @ night so why not watch the show at the same time…? Together with the concert: the first movie is about 8 minutes and introduces us to the Schiller crew and gives an impression from behind the scenes. Now we’re watching this DVD in upscaled mode so actually DVD’s look great on the 42 inch LCD screen. However, this introduction was made with some sort of noisy portable photocam or something…. creative filtering perhaps, in short: not the best way to introduce the viewer like this as the introduction clip is even kind of disturbing, quality wise spoken, to watch and enjoy. Ah well, let’s skip this one, the concerts begins…..
Instrumental start: “Sehnsucht LIVE” has begun, warm sounds, great mix, lowwwww bass - nice and cosy atmosphere, not too big stage, just great. Very eye-catching: the lighting during the show is superb! (background information andf explanation on dvd 2) ‘Der Tag’ featuring Jette von Roth sounds wonderful and certainly sets the tone: Schiller music is a sound adventure, it goes deep, it goes wild from time to time, it sticks in the head, in the soul. It’s music like music should be like. Jette is a great LIVE performer! What’s obvious is the quality of her voice / the mix as you hardly hear this is all performed LIVE….. What we experience with this DVD could have been an intense mixed studio session. Amazingly well done, a piece of art.
Guest star Ben Becker as the story teller - perhaps a bit exaggerated when it comes to low frequencies….. we prefer the studio version sort of speak, better for the woofers, then again a LIVE act is OK to be a bit cheesy right? Ben is doing very well and the synthy pads behind him are just fanatastic! Synchronisation at a professional top level.
Kim Sanders is a great live performer too - her voice immediately grabs the audience. Mysterious, groovy, soulful, touching. Kim feels at home on stage as well as in the studio. Lounge, trance, pop, ambient, Kim can do anything we suppose. “Forever” is a very catchy live act that simply needs to be on this DVD, and…. she’s coming back later during this show.
Jaël comes up….she is a romantic surprise. The second song she does is called “I need you”. In one word: wow! Super woman. Hahahaha! Very lovely with style, wonderful performance with an absolutely moving-till-tears-if-you-don’t-watch-out tone. On her bare feet. “Put your arms around me”. She simply does it! Relaxation as an interlude for the second part of the show…..
Wake-up call. “Irrlicht” is about the pure Schiller world of sounds - sweeping and intriguing. We can’t deny that the band members of Schiller adore making music as there’s so much of true and honest interaction between them during performing. The cameras are cathing these moments beautifully.
Jette von Roth for the second time on stagewith two tracks. “Sleepy Storm” ….never heard and felt the line “on the way with bow and arrow….” so good and intense! Play it loud! We’d like to describe it as ‘Unheimisch und jetzt ein sturm der Liebe”. This is Schiller at his best if you ask us.
Rumba time! Kim Sanders surprises us once again. “Dancing with Loneliness” is so very nice and loungy. Perfect timing for a small change of scenery, later we will lift off again….After the first track she asks the public: “You want me to let you love me…?” - “This one is called <Let me love you> and it’s a new track”. Now this song will stick in your head for days and nights we assure you.We feel it’s only fair to warn you. Sing it here! Kim, we love you…!!!!
“Nachtflug” enters out livingroom with a very clear and warm vocal chord, wow! Acoustics (guitar, drums, percussion) go together perfectly well with the samples and keyboards, straight from an unmade movie….. Dolby Digital 5.1 entertainment in extremely hi-quality; movies soundtrack production companies and studios can learn from Schiller, can someone please write that down?
Time for us to hug the Schiller band and guests Jette von Roth, Ben Becker, Kim Sanders, Jaël and September. Many thanks for a great LIVE event in the genre we certainly support and adore - call it electro pop, call it dance, call it ambientdance, we think the Schiller act is what more and more people are looking for : electronics with a lot of l-o-v-e- love. “Sehnsucht LIVE” DVD artwork is wonderfully designed, the integrated book with tons of information and great photos looks and smells fantastic. All content packed in a very steady and shock-proof box, a treasure in your collection…..
Coincidence: while we were writing this review for you, Schiller contacted us via Myspace. And we quote: Big thanks for the support and yes please…play Schiller on the podcast!
Coming up: review part 2. (DVD two) “Sehnsucht LIVE”.

Starbucks shuts 300 more stores… Thousands of baristas are to lose their jobs as Starbucks shuts stores to cope with dwindling sales of lattes, cappuccinos and frappuccinos as cash-strapped consumers lose their thirst for coffee. The Seattle-based chain tonight revealed a 70% slump in quarterly profits to $64.3m and announced that it intends to shed 6,700 employees this year. It is closing 300 stores, two thirds of which will be in the US, on top of 660 shutdowns last year.
As the global economy turns sour, appetite for Starbucks’ premium-priced drinks appears to be waning. Like-for-like sales fell by 10% at American stores and dropped by 3% elsewhere in the world - including a decline in the UK during the three months to December.
Starbucks’ chief executive, Howard Schultz, is joining in the belt-tightening by asking the company’s board to cut his basic salary from $1.2m to $10,000. Schultz, 55, dropped off Forbes’ list of the world’s billionaires last year as the value of his stake in Starbucks plunged. In a statement, Schultz blamed the “weakening global consumer environment” for Starbucks’ problems. He said the company was following a “well developed plan to strengthen our business through more efficient operations and by preserving the fundamental strengths and values of our brand”.
Analysts say Starbucks’ market has been eroded by improved coffee offerings at fast-food stores such as McDonald’s which typically charge much lower prices. Starbucks has 16,875 stores globally. It once boasted of an ambition to have 20,000 outlets in the US and a further 20,000 overseas, although expansion plans have since been radically scaled back.

On the other hand, it is clear that coffee is not for everyone. In excessive amounts - meaning more than whatever an individual’s body can tolerate - coffee can cause nervousness, jitters, and rapid heartbeat.
Although studies investigating any relationship between higher cholesterol levels and coffee have yielded conflicting results, it is believed that in some people, drinking excessive amounts of coffee might cause elevated cholesterol levels (5).
However, coffee drinkers who consume filtered coffee should not worry themselves with respect to cholesterol levels, because research indicates that it is the coffee oils which are mainly responsible for the rise in cholesterol in people who drink nonfiltered or boiled coffee.
Most recent large studies show no significant adverse affects on most healthy people, although pregnant women, heart patients, and those at risk for osteoporosis may still be advised to limit or avoid coffee.

Studies indicate coffee reduces the risk for diabetes and Parkinson’s…
Some studies have shown that coffee may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. After analyzing data on 120,000 people over an 18-year period, researchers at Harvard have concluded that drinking 1 to 3 cups of caffeinated coffee each day can reduce diabetes risk by several percentage points, compared with not drinking coffee at all. Even more significant, is the fact that in this study, having 6 cups or more per day slashed men’s risk by 54% and women’s risk by 30% over those who avoided coffee. This study is the latest of hundreds of studies which suggest that coffee may be something of a health food - especially in higher amounts.
At least 6 studies indicate that people who drink coffee on a regular basis have up to 80% lower risks of developing Parkinson’s disease, with 3 of those studies indicating that the more coffee they drink, the lower the risk. Other studies indicate that, compared to not drinking coffee, drinking at least 2 cups per day can lead to a 25% lower risk of colon cancer, an 80% drop in the risk of liver cirrhosis, and nearly 50% the risk of gallstones.
Cheers!
