07 Jun 10 Coffee Break: 64-bit

New studio setup now includes Logic Studio 2 and it works great! Took a little while to upgrade and update but oh yes…. we like it a lot here in the 64-bit mode environment. If you are a Logic 8 user, it is very much worth it to move on. Allright, hear hear, good music for you: first of all we found this track by Mosaik called Imogen Heap which is a nice kick off for this Coffee Break. From France comes the one and only Alexel and we’re proud to have him on the show playing two tracks from his soundtrack ‘No Gravity’, the PSP game out there. We already knew that New Zealand is a beautiful country and it certainly brings us excellent cinematic music performed by Crash. Mike Beaver has released one of the best series we’ve ever heard: Music for Films volume 1-4 are available. Everybody should get a copy and play at their homes… no more stress! The same goes for a very pleasant meeting we had with D.P. Kaufman. His brand new album ‘As The Ruins Falls’ has a place on our iPod now and will stay there…The music can be described as dreamy and trippy, various styles combined on one album; soundtrack meets IDM, Electronica meets Ambient. File it under ‘Refreshing’ and ‘Reload Yourself’… we love it! Off the Sky offers you the deep part for this show. Finalized by Anton Kapela and Arthur Durkee playing loops and guitars that simply sound very ambient. Enjoy this show!

END

Coffee Break recipe: as so many people ask me about the show and what I use for the production, here’s how to make a show in less than 1000 words…. Collecting and compiling the best music from all over the world, glue them together or bundle them like they really fit together, editing EQ and start-end points where necessary, collecting necessary information for being able to publish where to buy the records and find out more about the artist. Then: record the show and don’t forget to get a big cup of coffee…

After recording comes the mastering, bouncing and compression to mp3 format at 192Kbps stereo for best listening experiences and acceptable audio file size. All things on a Mac: the production of the show in Logic Studio. We also use this for bigger projects and it’s the best we know. Microphone: AKG Perception 200. Alesis Audio Interface io2. Meanwhile: create shownotes for the show, that is the storyboard with time codes for all tracks. Include links to iTunes Store or the artist website, whatever is most handy for a track in particular. Shownotes need to be saved as a text file, copy/pasted this into the actual post on the Spacemusic website later but also paste to this new pdf file for the Spacemusic App on the iPhone/iPod Touch. iTunes: add the compressed mp3 file and tag the file with all data, title, album, genre, lyrics, illustration. Front-end listening to the entire show before uploading to the server, if there’s something wrong one needs to re-open the project and filter out the error, compress it to mp3 again. Upload the mp3 file to the server.

Creating the RSS post on the Spacemusic server, add tags and SEO info. Adding the ‘podcast’ play arrow. Adding the photo/logo for the episode. Adding the media file: the actual show mp3 that was uploaded to the Libsyn server. We also create an extra post on this server for the parallel iPhone App feed with the same enclosure: the show mp3. Tags and bonus content for the iPhone App: the PDF file that has been created earlier plus some fine artwork in .jpg format. Open up Photoshop for making the 100% version and the 33% transparent version cause one needs to be able to read the shownotes with the artwork in the background. Credits to Shinsou for designing the Spacemusic App Artwork. Are we there yet? Let me see: checking all links from the shownotes to see if they work well. If yes: hit publish on both servers. Testing both the RSS feeds. Downloading the files and play the files. I think that’s basically it…. per show it takes app. 8 hours to do the job, depending on the availability and quality of the music of course, sometimes longer, never shorter ;-) Enjoy your coffee!

10 May 09 Senseo® Sundays ::: CRASH :::

It’s now already May 10th 2009 and we’re on a countdown for the June Holidays… but first: let’s have a fresh cup of coffee shall we? Meanwhile: good photos have been added to our photostream: the Calatrava bridge transport through Rotterdam. A great Santiago Calatrava Valla designed item. Click the Flickr link at the right sidebar for full details. Images go well with music right? Let’s introduce our artist for today;

Calatrava in Rotterdam

We’re proud to present: CRASH from New Zealand. His album series: Music for Film. When we first visited his Myspace site and listened to a couple of his tracks: bingo! This music just had to be on the podcast; good quality soundtrack music, high production level, touching melodies mixed with cinematic soundscapes. We can also tell you: we’re gonna hear a lot more from Crash in the near future. More information via his Myspace site and for this occassion we’ve copy-pasted from his site to ours…

CRASH is born Mike Beever winter of 1969 in the north of England. At a very early age he is introduced to music through his father, a church organist and his mother a keen ‘New Seekers’ fan!He develops an interest in uplifting and soaring music through his love of the great composers in particular J.S Bach, Handel, Mozart and Beethoven but it is when he comes ear to ear with film and music that the potent mix strikes a chord. Throughout his teenage years he begins a love affair with sound synthesis aquiring his first synths at age 14 and going on to start experimenting with sound and recording throughout these years.

After many years travelling he settles in London and takes position as house engineer at Station Studios and goes on to produce successful LPs, Eps and singles for Coldplay, Seafood, Tiny Too and Fierce Panda Records. CRASH moves to the north of England, Spain and eventually New Zealand in the Spring of 2003 where he lives and works. The next few years begin to take his music to a whole new level and with less distraction and more time he begins to mould his very own brand of music.

‘Film Soundtrack Electronica’ is the nearest description to what now is produced from the Lodge Studios. Often simple pieces beginning with the piano grow into full orchestral soundscapes only suitable for wide expanse and a wide imagination by the listener. Across the world CRASH is heard by a wide variety of people. He touches emotions through his music and the journey is only just beginning…

Play it loud! You won’t regret. And your neighbours will be friends for life….
