Mixing influences from around the world, Maneki Neko’s debut CD, Auracle, contains ambient soundscapes layered with gently rolling hints of melody, and grounded in deep, satisfying, resonant beds. The result is music with depth and purpose that invites the mind and body to relax in its electro-acoustic textures.
The Jukebox plays ‘Drifting between Stars’, you better watch out when playing this track, your mind will literally drift away from this world… Warm sounds, great atmosphere, takes you back and to the future in one go. Get your copy of the wonderful album ‘Auracle’ and visit the Maneki Neko website today.
Sleepy Town Manufacture are one of the first participants of the astonishing invasion of russian electronica into the western world. The band was founded in 1999 by Roman Komarov, Anton Lukoyanychev and Alexander Ananyev. Alexander also produces a unspeakably warm ambient under the name Beautumn.
The Jukebox plays Enjoy The Silence - the Sleepy shows his skills remix - in one word: one of the coolest remixes we’ve ever heard of this song! Again… Depeche Mode as a source of inspiration. Where did we see that before?… Oh, and we really don’t know where you can get the track to be honest. As far as we know, it’s not for sale anyway, so, enjoy the silence.
Two years after Sehnsucht (Desire), it’s finally here: in March 2010, Christopher von Deylen, alias Schiller, is releasing a new double album with thirty new tracks. Atemlos (Breathless) so subtly transgresses the boundaries of electronic pop that it becomes a unique musical experience. The press hails Christopher von Deylen as a “master of global pop,” who, inspired by electronic classics such as Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, and Jean Michel Jarre, creates visionary sounds and condenses the atmosphere of our times into new electronic music. At home all over the world, he is always searching for the perfect sound and for ever new images to which he can give expression in his music. His sure sense for unusual sounds and voices has led to some surprising collaborations on this new double album.
The American singer Nadia Ali has contributed her incomparable voice to Schiller’s Atemlos and finds her way to a new form when working with Deylen. “I had heard Nadia seven years ago. To me, her voice has a unique appeal, so I was very pleased she agreed to perform with me.” Her ‘Try’ is definitely one of my favorite numbers on the album.”
Yes, the Jukebox plays ‘Try’. A song that will stick in your head for years we think;-) For us reason enough to go and book a ticket for the Schiller Tour 2010, Düsseldorf here we come!
Featuring Sylvia Gerlach: the new Klangstein release is today! Their album “Resturlaub 2.0″ found it’s way to our mailbox and we’re proud to play this track ‘Ganz Leise’ on our show today. This album is a wonderful collection of excellent downtempo tracks with hi-quality mixing skills. We noticed Klangstein music on the compilation albums via @sinemusic records a long time ago and we thought…. “WOW!” “This is good, this should get released separately on a Klangstein album”. And you know what….. March 12th 2010 is the official release date of the album! “Resturlaub 2.0″ features guests like Sylvia Gerlach and singer/songwriter Nosie Katzmann. The album sounds warm, sometimes it’s even a deep dive into the unknown, but most of all: you will play it over and over again. Please follow the links to the iTunes Store and the Klangstein website and get your copy today!

Jukebox LS edition: Tromso, 70 degrees north, in the Arctic region, in the middle of the most active northern lights zone. In summer time, land of the midnight sun. In winter, total darkness.
In October 1995, as part of the annual Polar Music Festival, Geir Jenssen of Biosphere and Bobby Bird of the Higher Intelligence Agency, were commissioned by Nor Concerts to collaborate together on a musical project to take place in Geir’s home town of Tromso, Norway. The brief was for them to perform three concerts, using sounds sourced from the area as the basis of the music - the machinery of the local mountain cable lift, the snow, the ice etc…
The performances from which this recording is taken, took place on top of a mountain above Tromso, in a cabin reached by the cable car, in which the audience were transported up the mountain in turn.
First release: 1996 on Beyond, limited edition 5000 pieces. Reissue: 2003 on Headphone. The Jukebox plays with kind permission of (HIA) Bobby Bird (that’s so cool!!!!) the opening track ‘Cimmerian Shaft’ which sets the tone for this album, a musthave in your ambient collection. Probably one of the best releases ever in the genre: Polar Sequences.
From Niedersachsen, Germany: Thomas Lemmer’s Lounge music Project. “Mein erstes Solo Album wird ein Chillout - Lounge Album sein. Die Idee dazu kam mir Anfang 2007, als ich anfing mit meinen alten analogen Synthesizern zu experimentieren. Ich verarbeitete sphärische Flächen mit sehr langsamen Drumloops und improvisierte über die Harmonien. Nach und nach kristallisierten sich immer mehr guter Ideen heraus und ich dachte, warum eigentlich nicht gleich ein ganzes Album davon produzieren”. The Jukebox plays an exclusive track, many Thanks Thomas!
Making music since he was 15 years old, Mark de Jong studied sonology at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and it was a couple of years later when he launched the ‘Low Energy Center’. A way of hiding from the high-energy world outside and re-load in the low-energy center. His inspiration to start making ambient music had to do with a dance party back in 1992; at his friend’s place (*TC*) he heard this album by Locust called ‘Weathered Well’. TC played the best tracks from this album during this non-stop ambient afterparty which was born early in the morning in Harmelen, near Utrecht. Mark got hooked and from that moment in time, ambient music has become a way of living for him. Ambient Island is one of his latest projects where his music can be downloaded and can be donated for. Visit Ambient Island here.
The Jukebox plays the title song from his album ‘Good To See You’ and is also available on the iTunes Store, Amazon MP3, Rhapsody and Sony Connect. The music is timeless and deserves a very close listen on a regular basis; Feel free to de-compress and re-load yourself in the Low Energy Center!
Robert Henke, born 1969, is a composer, sound designer, software developer, installation artist and performer. His music has roots in academic sound research as well as in club culture, and the result is a body of work that is sophisticated yet accessible. Robert Henke releases music under his own name and as Monolake; his performances and interactive installations have been shown at places like the Tate Modern in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, MUDAM in Luxembourg, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney. Robert is one of the authors of the Ableton Live music software, and teaches as professor for sound design at the University of Arts in Berlin.
Remixing Depeche Mode ‘Darkest Star’:
Robert: “I have no fixed scheme. I am looking for an idea, something unique which guides me thru what ever comes next. In the case of Darkest Star it was the lyric”.
It still sounds like a Depeche Mode track!
Robert: “Yes. And it makes me incredibly happy to hear this. It might not be the best Depeche Mode track ever, but at least it has some of the color…and as I said earlier in this interview, color is quite important to me. I think much more in colors then in song structures”
Did you ever get any feedback on the remix from the band at all?
The Edge of a Fairytale is an ambient excursion to inner and outer spaces. Inspired and influenced by ancient myths, legends and places, this album is my soundtrack to the world as we perceive it; balancing between the known and the unknown - on The Edge of a Fairytale.
“…the deep, rich and mystifying sound that resides on The Edge of a Fairytale has a somewhat dark point of view. However it is not a darkness of evil, but rather one that dwells within the uncharted realms between truth and fiction; a darkness representing an unknown that we travel through while always optimistic that there is light - or enlightenment - to be found somewhere ahead.”
