(AUDIO version) Welcome to Rotterdam! The weather is just perfect for the 14th edition of the Danceparade. Not too many incidents this year, we found ourselves with both video and photo cam in our hands. On this sunday which is “The Day After” sort of speak, we’d like to take you on a beautiful tour with the French composer Saycet - we played a couple of tracks on an earlier show back in march of this year. This time an intriguing combination of his track called “Circonflex” together with absolute brilliant video shot on Malgas Island by Earth Touch. Super clip… super music! Relaxation day….great coffee (from the Nespresso machine) and a bit of healing with fantastic ambient music from Slovakia. Via the postal we received an album from Emil Matko; he started Strom Noir in the beginning of 2007. We experienced the album ‘Luvyoo’ as a welcome treatment: super ambient, just take the time to switch that knob inside your head, don’t think but breathe in and out, the two tracks we play on this show really have that captured mood: “Nothing Really Happens” feels like the earth stands still and we’re watching ourselves from a distance. Second we visit the “Heartland” where past and present meet and greet.

…Music of Strom Noir flows between slow ambient and minimal electronic sounds with using electric and acoustic guitar loops and synths as a basis integrated with field recordings and various abstract sounds. This sunday morning the City of Rotterdam was grey and misty… for a moment we thought we’re gonna see Autumn Leaves here! Such moments we dive into the archives of our music collection. Today we found: Forma Tadre. It has been on our minds to play on the podcast for years now. We had to play and record the music from a mini-disc to Logic first and now it’s here on the Senseo Sunday podcast. This album “Automate” can be filed under Experimental Ambient, Industrial Ambient. Brings back memories - “music that I first heard on a local radio station in 1995 in The Hague, TC” - It’s not exactly dinner music, it brings us dreamy and hypnotic loops and sounds, play @ high volume! Sunshine is getting through again, humidity at a very high level so we’ve got ourselves a sticky situation now.

Sticky situation: 26C and humidity at very high levels.

You know what?… Let’s leave the world for a couple of minutes and enjoy this coffee break more than ever! Why don’t we fly to the edge of the unknow/known, why don’t we experience ‘The Edge of a Fairytale’ by this great artist from Sweden: Between Interval. They did it again! Hi quality music from one of the most beautiful countries up North from our perspectives.

Between Interval is Stefan Strand; he started playing around with sounds at the age of 14, inspired by Jean-Michel Jarre and the SEGA master system for instance. Later releasing house, trance and progressive music under a different name. The ambient motto never left Stefan: The Spotted Peccary label had an excellent nose for his style! They released his albums ‘Radio Silence’, ‘Secret Observatory, ‘Autumn Continent’. Stefan got ‘top pick’ album @ Amazon, Top List for new age in 2006 and 2007.

On today’s show we play 3 tracks in a row from his latest new ambient adventure sent to us by Spotted Peccary themselves: “The Edge of a Fairytale”. Tracks are simply deep… (sounds from the woods and the rain are not included on the album!) There’s a mystical tone, some might say: -dark- ? Well, that is ‘dark’ in the sense of ‘not knowing what to expect’. Stefan invites us to experience what we know and what we don’t know at all…. Are you in?

Cappuccino Muffins Recipe

Taste-testers have deemed this the best muffin ever! They are moist and delicious with a touch of spice from the cinnamon and nutmeg with the awesome flavor from the espresso coffee shining through. Great for brunch, dessert, or snacks, and they also freeze well. Prep Time: 15 minutes. Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons instant espresso coffee powder (or instant coffee)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate mini-chips

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line muffin tins with papers or grease liberally. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, espresso or instant coffee, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, mix milk, butter, egg, and vanilla until combined. Stir milk mixture into flour mixture only until combined. Do not overmix. Fold in chocolate chips.

Fill muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake 15 to 20 minutes for standard muffins, 10 to 12 minutes for mini-muffins.

Cappuccino muffins freeze well. Yield: 12 muffins or about 48 mini-muffins.

Certainly more beats than usual on today’s episode. One could even call this one a bit ‘alternative’. This show won’t go with your dinner table we suppose… so that you know what to expect. Hypnotic tunes and beats that come through the speakers, cinematic layers and IDM like arrangements; performances by Ferry Corsten (Rotterdam, NL), Side Liner from Greece, Ab Ovo from France. Just to name a few. Spacemusic introduces you to the official April/May holidays in Holland as we have the rest of the week off. So now it’s really time to do stuff that normally spoken slips through the fingers… We’d like to remind you of the upcoming new Fresh Air!
